In this episode of the Bees Knees podcast, host Mary Elliott interviews special guest Steve Hansen about his knee recovery experience. Steve shares that he decided to get new bionic knees after experiencing increasing pain from playing pickleball. He chose his surgeon, Dr. Robert Ference , based on a recommendation from a friend. Despite initially researching top-rated surgeons, meeting Dr. Ference felt like a divine intervention. Steve describes Dr. Ference as a gifted doctor who uses his talents to bless people.
The conversation then shifts to Steve’s recovery process. He discusses his anticipation of intense pain after surgery but was pleasantly surprised when he didn’t experience it. He attributes this to staying on top of his medication as advised by Dr. Ference. Steve also talks about the importance of his support system during recovery, including his wife and the visiting nurse and physical therapists who assisted him. He mentions some challenges he faced, such as swelling due to improper leg elevation, but thanks to the help of his healthcare team, the issues were resolved.
